Crowns are artificial replacement that restores missing tooth structure by surrounding part of all of the remaining structure with a material such as cast metal, ceramics, or a combination of materials such as metal and porcelain.

A Prosthodontist is trained to treat cases with complex malocclusion, and/or severe attrition when treatment requires increasing the vertical dimension (bite height) with phonetic and esthetic considerations, and the potential for masticatory muscle pain/dysfunction.
